The Propagation of Water Waves along a Channel with a Corrugated Sidewall

چکیده
This paper studies surface gravity waves in a channel with corrugated sidewalls in water of constant depth according to linear theory. Waves propagating along the channel encounter a nite patch of step-like corrugations in one of the channel walls. The method of solution employed is one of expansion in terms of eigenfunctions in each region and matching at the boundaries between regions. It is found that the theory proposed by Liu in 1987 gives excellent predictions of the reeected energy ux for small-amplitude corrugations in a narrow channel but not in more general circumstances. For channels wider than half a wavelength of the incident wave, at least one higher mode will be propagating rather than evanescent. These higher modes can transport energy away from the irregularities thus invalidating approaches to the problem which ignore them. In some circumstances, an incident wave may be totally reeected from just a single indentation in the channel wall.

The existing theory for wave propagation through a soil layer are not compatible with the real soil layers because in the theory the layers are flat and the sub-layers are parallel, while in real the soil layers are not flat and they may not be parallel. Thus, wave propagations through a corrugated interface are so important. In this paper, a two-dimensional SH-wave propagation through a corrug...
متن کاملBoundary Shear Stress in a Trapezoidal Channel
This paper focuses on a hydraulic radius separation approach used to calculate the boundary shear stress in terms of bed and wall shear stress proposed in a trapezoidal channel. The average bed and sidewall shear stress in smooth trapezoidal open channels are derived after using Guo & Julien (2005) early equations taking a part of an investigation to cover both rectangular and trapezoidal chann...
متن کاملDynamics of Love-Type Waves in Orthotropic Layer Under the Influence of Heterogeneity and Corrugation
The present problem deals with the propagation of Love-type surface waves in a bedded structure comprises of an inhomogeneous orthotropic layer and an elastic half-space. The upper boundary and the interface between two media are considered to be corrugated. An analytical method (separation of variables) is adapted to solve the second order PDEs, which governs the equations of motion. Equations...
متن کاملPropagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields
A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop in a Corrugated Channel
The influence of variation in rib-height to channel-height ratio (e/H) on the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics inside a channel with corrugated upper and lower plates was investigated numerically in the present study. The governing equations were solved by using finite volume approximations for a wide range of (0.06 < e/H < 0.26) and Reynolds numbers (5400 < Re < 23000), with a m...
